STEAM Night

Science Technology Engineering And Math (STEAM) Night is one of the Brookwood community’s favorite nights of the year. A group of dedicated PTA parents coordinate interactive presentations by a wide range of experts in the areas of science, technology, engineering and math.
Exhibits have included: Shatto Milk demonstration; Rockhurst University presentations on coding, DNA extraction, wacky science; hands-on chemistry experiments hosted by Mad Science; telescope demonstrations by the Astronomical Society of Kansas City; up-close viewings of reptiles and wild birds; robotic equipment demonstrations, as well as many more!
The most recent addition to STEAM night included a CHASE (Community Help for Autism Spectrum Everywhere) exhibit that featured stations designed to educate both students and parents about sensory challenges that co-exist with individuals on the autism spectrum.

Students also get the opportunity to test their skills with various STEAM challenges, such as guessing the number of items in a range of “Guesstimation Jars.” Another favorite is the “Pi for Pie” challenge where students recite the infinite number Pi 3.14 for as many integers as they can remember, with the top winners each receiving a pie.

STEAM night is always evolving with new exhibits, so each year it is a fresh experience and one we are very proud of at Brookwood!
