Clubs:

Math Club

Students meet after school to focus on math computation and collaborative problem-solving skills. Several times a year, the Shawnee Mission School District hosts Mathletics competitions where students work in teams to solve higher-level math problems. Open to students in grades 4th-6th

Running Club

Students meet before school at Brookwood on Wednesday mornings from 7:30 a.m. – 8 a.m. for a fall training season and spring training season. Both seasons culminate with an all-club, 2-Mile Fun Run. Open to students in grades 2nd-6th

Volleyball Club
Do Good Club

The Brookwood Do Good Club is a Community Service organization that offers students opportunities to volunteer and make a difference in their community. Open to students of all ages

Activities include:

Collection drives for food, clothing and other requested items; recipient organizations have included: the Johnson County Christmas Bureau, Hope House, KC Pet Project, Harvesters, Village Food Pantry, Shoe KC, the Giving Brick, Blair’s Foster Socks, SMAC Clothing Exchange, Project Warmth, HALO Foundation, Red Bag Project, and many more.

Hands-on projects in which age-appropriate activities are coordinated at Brookwood for community organizations; projects have included: creating blankets for newborns in the NICU at Research Medical Center, as well as children at the Marrilac Center; creating dog toys and cat blankets for KC Pet Project, sorting legos for the Giving Brick, filling Easter Eggs with candy for Down’s Syndrome Guild Easter Egg Hunt, decorating cookies to deliver to the Leawood Fire Department, creating cards and care packages for active duty military and veterans centers

Community outreach field trips to Harvesters, Senior Care centers, Food Pantries, Ronald McDonald House, Produce Gleanings, Metro Lutheran Ministries, Leawood Fire Department, Leawood City Park, Salvation Army, the Gillis Center, City Union Mission

Environmental Club

The Environmental Club is a group that focuses on environmental efforts and initiatives supporting Brookwood’s nationally recognized status as a Green School. Open to students of all ages

Scouts

Brookwood has a proud history of having an active scouting community. For more information on Boy Scout Pack #3197 and Girl Scout Troops, contact scout leaders.

Music Groups:

Students may enroll in Band or Strings instruction provided during the school day by the district. Open to students in 5th-6th grades

Students may also participate in Choir and/or Hand Chimes, with practices held twice a week for 2 weeks before a concert.  There are performances throughout the year. Open to students in 5th-6th grades
After school options include Glee Club, Harmonica Club and Drums Club

Student Enrichment Opportunities:

Geography Bee, Spelling Bee, Reflections Contest, Citizenship Essay Contest, Mathletics, Chat-N-Chew

Safety Patrol: Sixth grade students may apply for the privilege of serving Brookwood by assisting with student drop-off and pick-up and general safety leadership on sidewalks and in the halls during student arrival and dismissal times.
